This week’s how I took it is not about Shaun Suisham, but it is dedicated to him. For those of you not born and raised in Wallaceburg, Shaun is a home-town Wallaceburg boy who went on to make it big as a kicker in the NFL, and will be the only Canadian playing in this year’s Superbowl. Pretty damn impressive to say the least. As a proud Wallaceburgian, Wallaceburger… call us what you will, this week’s How I Took It is dedicated to Shaun. There will be a sea of black and gold in town this weekend, and I can’t wait to witness it.
The first football game I photographed (or at least remember photographing) was our high school championship where Suisham kicked a 58-yarder to win the game. Although I haven’t photographed him since, I wanted to send a shout out in this week’s column to him and the Steelers!
You can read more about Shaun in The Globe and Mail
This week’s How I Took It is a photograph of football player Michael Fletcher, from Compton California.
I used two flashes to shoot this portrait of Fletcher. One was placed on a stand and angled down towards him. The second flash was placed behind him, inside his locker, with a blue gel (piece of plastic) on it, to create a backlight that matched The Toronto Argonauts colours. The flash also bounced off of the blue helmets lined up above him.
Lens (mm): 78
Flash 1(the one in front): 1/16 power
Flash 2(wth blue gel): 1/8 power
