Aside from teaching, Tammy and I have spent some time venturing around this amazing city and well, eating our way through it, too.
From doner, to baklava, to zucchini croquettes, to cold yogurt soup, this city is a foodies dream come true.
We’ve managed to see some sites in the afternoons… the Blue Mosque, Spice Market, Aya Sophia, and we’re staying in an apartment where you feel like you can literally reach out and touch the Galata Tower.
People have been so, so friendly, and accommodating. The other night we sat on the roof of our friends apartment watching the sunset to the smell of chicken on the bbq, only to have a plate full handed up to us from the apartment below. Turkey is that kind of friendly.
This weekend, we’re off to see an old translator friend that I worked with on the Out My Window project last time I was in Istanbul. We plan to visit her on one of the Prince’s Islands after spending the day bicycling, and touring around.
This week, our friend will arrive from Canada, and we plan to hop a plane to Izmir the following weekend!
