I totally agree with the out-of-the-studio-setup thing. Especially with newborns. Without question, it’s an acquired skill to be able to position a baby SOUND ASLEEP, positioned comfortably and perfectly in a cute hat, with its head resting on its hands and a smile on its face.. but after attempting to do this again and again, I have come to terms with the fact that it’s a skill reserved for a special type of person. I am not that person. I can’t charm a baby to sleep. I can’t work on positioning a newborn for 4+ hours (!!!). And so I give up- not on newborn shoots, but on doing them any way other than how I really want to do them. I’m with you all the way on the real-life, real-world stuff. You are an incredible inspiration for photographers to stick to doing what they want to do and not what some people might want them to do. There’s a photographer out there for everyone, and in order for us to keep us loving what we do, we need to appeal to the people who are the right fit for each of us. Thank you for being real and for capturing real moments! And PS. your family is adorbs and I have no idea how you got the dog to sit, stay, and look. But why isn’t the baby looking?
